The meeting was held this time in the community of Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon, and organized representatives from nine Jewish communities from the region, in five of which Habonim Dror operates.
The theme of the seminar this year was “The Jewish street in its transformations”, in which participated, in addition to the CONIB Presidency, Jewish Agency and Habonim Dror shlichim, the presidents of the communities, teachers, rabbis and cantors, social activists and graduates of Habonim Dror the various communities.
In the north and north-east of Brazil there are small Jewish communities (40-2500 people) who face a complex reality that combines geographical distance, demanding tasks, lack of activists, coping with the question of the Anusim and other challenges. This seminar is the first initiative for inter-communal dialogue between communities with many similarities, and has already developed in its previous editions many collaborations and practical tools to use in the communities.
Habonim Dror is an integral partner in the seminar thanks to the activities of the various communities and the centrality of the movement in each of the communities in which it operates. Of the 40 participants in the seminar, 12 were from the movement – 7 from the Manaus branch and another 5 from other branches in the region.
